It’s not uncommon these days to see fellow artists comparing themselves to others; especially to the most popular artists in their particular fandom or whatever. I’m guilty of this myself, and it’s not always a bad thing. Competition is good for the economy, and a healthy amount of competition is good for an artist, because it acts as a motivator to force yourself to improve.
However, it can be detrimental to your growth. The most basic way to explain it is that you become way too jealous and begin to focus more on popularity rather than your own art.
The best way to deal with this is to find and focus on your own goal. It may be similar to another person’s goal, but it will never be exactly the same, because we are all different people. Work hard towards that, and never let something petty like Internet popularity get in your way. Internet popularity probably won’t mean anything anymore in 5-10 years time, but the art skills you have worked to develop will be an asset to yourself forever.
I wrote this as a reminder for myself and also for anyone else who might need it! Hope this makes sense because it’s 1:30AM and I’m about to go to bed.
Thanks for 7k followers btw! :D HI GUYS I LOVE YOU ALL
